Microsoft SharePoint 2010

The business collaboration platform for the enterprise and the web

SharePoint Server 2010 marks a major step forward in the evolution of the SharePoint platform and builds on the functionality and usability of the 2007 release. With massive investment across all areas of SharePoint there are too many new features and business wins to mention here but overall there is a wide appreciation of how much has gone into the 2010.

"SharePoint 2010 is the biggest and most important release of SharePoint to date"

-Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer

Coinciding with the release of SharePoint 2010 is Office 2010, this offers rich integration with SharePoint, SQL and Exchange and provides a functionally rich business platform for creating and managing content and business process.

“When paired with Microsoft Office 2010, SharePoint 2010 will transform efficiency by connecting workers across a single collaboration platform for business”

-Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer

Trinity have been involved in SharePoint 2010 for over a year through our membership of the exclusive Developer Advisory Council. This puts us in the privileged position of not only having early access to the products but also feeding into the product groups within Microsoft with suggestions and feedback from both a technical solution implementation.

As part of our continued commitment to provide consulting services and early adoption of technology we have had a presence at the SharePoint Conference (held in Las Vegas in October) and SharePoint Ignite (held in Amsterdam in November). We are now able to confirm that one of our Senior Consultants, Matt Groves will be speaking at Europe’s Premier SharePoint 2010 Conference in April. FInd out more

While there are a number of reasons to look at SharePoint as the solution to a wide range of problems and challenges within your business today, there are, of course, some key considerations that may affect the ease of adoption:

  • SharePoint 2010 requires a 64-bit platform (including 64-bit SQL)
  • You cannot “skip” Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and go straight to SharePoint 2010 from SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  • Does your licensing cover you? Did you include Software Assurance when you bought your Enterprise/Select Agreements or SharePoint 2007 Client Access Licences?
  • How have you customised 2007? Will your customisations migrate easily? How much have the users done (that you may not know about)?
  • Do you know which other systems within your estate integrate with SharePoint today? Will they work with 2010?
  • Internet Explorer 6 is not a supported browser
  • The Office 2010 user interface is radically different to 2003 – are you ready to re-train your users?
